Day trip to Venice today to show the kids what all the fuss is about.
Set off early for a short drive to Mestre station to catch h the train across to St Lucia.
Weather was perfect clear sunny blue sky day and very fresh!!!
Started out with a walk through the maze of streets and shops and stopped for breaky coffee and pastries in a little piazza where the locals had already decided it was wineoclock for them!
Carried on through to the Rialto Bridge and then St Marco’s
Such a lovely day in the sun we spent a while sitting in the sun , getting a much needed dose of the water view and just people (and pigeon!) watching .
Re-entered the maze for lunch and the back to St Marco’s to catch the vaporetto! Scored some up front seats for a very scenic trip back to the station seeing all the Palazzi along the way you can’t see from the street maze.
Beautiful … but the signs of age and urban decay are unfortunately more evident than last visit 20 years ago! The kids were fascinated with the mask makers and intricate masks, the glass creations, the Spider-Man movie film locations and the site of building leaning, sinking on one side or lopsided !
