Lago Maggiore

After a long day of cross country driving yesterday, we arrived in Lago Maggiore .

We’re staying in an old lake villa here and it’s pretty special with views that are amazing! 180 degree view of the lake with snow dusting the mountains .

Today we just had a low key day walking along the lakefront here in Baveno or driving along the lakeside .

Some amazing hotels and villas – the guide book calls them “confections” and I can see why – they do look like fancy cakes with all the trimmings .

Watching the colours of the lake and the mountains change throughout the day was beautiful.

Unfortunately most of the shops etc are closed for the winter but it’s nice to not have the tourist crowds around .

There was a holocaust memorial in Baveno, which apparently was the site of the first German setup in Italy and the first round up of Jewish people in Italy in WW2. Very sad set of historical facts but a lovely series of remembrance monuments and tributes along the waterfront .
