Departed Udine after farewells to all our other co- travellers, and set off for Zurich.
Beautiful clear weather day . We followed the left side of Lake Maggiore north, finding lots of lovely spots to return to in the summer sometime.
Crossed the Swiss border close to the top of the lake with no passports checks yet again!
A bit further on we travelled under the Alpes in the 16km-long St Gottard tunnel, which spat us out the other end into a winter wonderland!
Travelled along the edges of Lake Lucerne and Lake Zurich which looked like green glass in the low afternoon light!
Checked into our apartment and took a walk around the west side of the old town with a late lunch in what used to be a 14th century armory .
Swiss German sausages , schnitzels and potatoes multiple ways for all – don’t forget the sauerkraut!
Early night after a big day of travel and got up and out early the next morning for a brisk -4degree walk to the lake and thought the east bank old town. A different urban landscape framed by mountains in the background and the lake and canals that run through the city.
The kids located the record shop of their dreams, and we found some very cute laneways and shops to explore. Some of the highlights were the amazing watch and Coukoo clocks, so many train sets, bakeries and flower shops, not to mention the Swiss hot chocs we had to have to warm up!
